Itinerary
The following itinerary is an EXAMPLE NORTH BOUND ITINERARY (WITH THE SYDNEY TO CARINS BUS PASS) as you can choose to travel one epic journey up OR down the coast or even spread it out over time in smaller trips.
B = Breakfast | L = Lunch | D = Dinner
Day 1
Head to Sydney Central Station and check in with your bus driver at 6:15pm for a 6:45pm departure. Travel on the overnight bus up to Rainbow Beach.
Day 2
Arrive in Rainbow Beach at 7:00pm. Spend the night chilling out or getting to know your travel buddies at Dingo’s bar complete with live music. Stay the night in Dingo’s, Rainbow Beach (opposite the bus stop).
Day 3 (B)
Free morning to explore Rainbow Beach or sit by the pool and soak up the sun. You need to attend a briefing at Dingo’s Adventure Resort at 4:30pm. This will provide you with all the information you need to prepare yourself for the next 3 days on the world-famous Fraser Island! Stay the night in Dingo’s, Rainbow Beach.
Days 4-6 (B,L,D) (B,L,D) (B,L)
Fraser Island!! Depart Rainbow Beach for the famous self drive tag-along safari. 8 people per 4x4, 3 - 4 vehicles per trip makes for the ultimate road trip. Sun, sand and surf... camping right next to the ocean for two nights... perfect.... Return to Dingo’s on the afternoon of day 6 for a night of unforgettable memories with your fellow travellers.
Day 7 (B)
Help yourself to the free pancake breakfast and tea and coffee before departing Rainbow beach at 7.00pm on the overnight bus to Airlie Beach.
Day 8
Arrive in Airlie Beach at 9:30am after your overnight bus ride. Unfortunately you can’t check in until 1pm (everyone else is still asleep!) however, you can store your luggage at the hostel while you explore Airlie. During the day, you need to go to ABC Travel (next to Airlie Beach Lagoon) between 10am-4pm to check in for your sailing trip tomorrow. We also recommend you pick up some alcohol for your trip. Stay the night at Nomads Airlie Beach (5min walk from the transit centre).
Days 9-11 (D) (B,L,D) (B,L)
After dropping your luggage at Peterpans, it’s time for the Whitsundays! Depart at 2pm and get in your swim wear ready to cruise out into the ocean. 2 days & 2 nights of snorkelling exploring and amazing fun in the evenings. Return at 1pm on day 11 for an afternoon of free time in Airlie Beach. Tonight is the after-party of your Whitsundays Trip where things can get a bit wild! Stay the night in Airlie Beach at Nomads.
Day 12
Catch the 9:30am (not too early!) bus up to Cairns. Arrive in Cairns at 7.30pm. Connect with flights or busses to your next destination or extend your stay in Cairns and see what else far north Queensland has to offer.
Departures / Pickups
Buses depart from Cairns/Sydney/Byron/Brisbane daily.
Tongarra departs Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.
